This year, thanks to a generous donation from our partners, American AgCredit, Veterans to Farmers was able to give $30,000 in grants to Veterans who participated in our Business Planning Class at Denver Botanic Gardens. Our Veterans worked hard to build the groundwork
for bringing their dreams to life, and with American AgCredit’s support they have the funding they need to get started.
American AgCredit and their employees have been invaluable with their support this year and have committed to continuing these grant opportunities into the future. They understand what it takes to be successful in agriculture and have a true desire to see our Veterans succeed in business.
The American AgCredit team not only donated money but volunteered their time to help mentor and encourage our students. Most notably was MacKenzie Stoaks and Katie Magnuson, who joined us as evaluators for the grant process. Both Mackenzie and Katie are Senior Underwriters
with AAC and their knowledge and experience with reviewing business plans and financials lead to great feedback and thoughtful questions.
This year’s grant recipients are all across the country, from Denver to Maine, all focusing on different types of agriculture. They are all working on bettering food access in their communities and taking up the opportunity to serve their country again in a meaningful way. These veterans
have found their purpose in agriculture, and we are very excited to see where they go from here!
Earlier this year 15 Veterans, all graduates of past programs, started turning their ideas into reality. By taking our Business Planning Course they learned everything it takes to write a comprehensive plan that will start them on their path to small business ownership. Under the guidance of instructor Royce Hale, they wrote down their plans and through support and feedback from fellow veterans they honed their Business ideas. Throughout the process they learned how to speak confidently about their plans.
At the end of the program many of the students went a step further and learned how to turn their business plan into a Pitch and presented that live to our panel of evaluators. These evaluators were able to give three of the Veterans who participated in the competition, grants of $10,000.00 each thanks to American AgCredit
