Jordan and Molly McDuffie, American AgCredit Recipient from Veterans to Farmers

Jordan served as a linguist in the Army until 2012. He moved to Colorado in 2015 and began an academic career motivated by ongoing climate crises. While in academia, he grew to understand the connectedness between environmental degradation and our industrial agricultural practices and the social ramifications of said relationship. After graduating from college, Jordan became involved with several organizations in the Denver area that provide access to clean food through urban farming, food rescue and distribution, and community education. In 2022 Jordan was accepted into the Veterans to Farmers program, giving him the opportunity to become more involved and integrated in his local food systems. Veterans to Farmers provided the inspiration, mentorship, and encouragement for Jordan to pursue agriculture as not only a lifestyle but a career.

Jordan has followed an opportunity to farm back to the East Coast, where he and his wife, Molly, have begun a small-scale dairy farm. Ambarona Farm practices multi-species rotational grazing, with cows and chickens, on 65 acres of land in Cumberland, Maine, where they have partnered with local chefs creating an onsite restaurant, Wander, to help support the local food economy.

The McDuffies have received a grant for $10,000 to purchase a small dairy herd of Kerry Cows and the necessary equipment for milking them. With this purchase they will be up and running on their new farm serving milk and other products to their local community.
